- Do Have the Right Power Available: Your window unit will need electricity. That means there has to be an outlet within reach of the power cord. That outlet also needs to provide the right level of power safely. Contact an electrician if you need upgrades.
- Don’t Do Your Measurements Just Once: Not only do you need to measure the window to make sure a unit can physically fit it safely, but you also need to measure the area of the room that needs cooling so you can get an appropriately powerful air conditioner.
- Do Use Brackets if You Need Them: Sometimes, brackets are necessary for supporting the weight and position of an air conditioner. This might come from the manufacturer, but it can also be a matter of local ordinances. Use them if you have to.
- Don’t Do This Alone: Air conditioners weigh a lot. Even if you can pick one up with your two hands by yourself, you won’t have any hands free to do the work. Have someone help you.
Once you have this accomplished, you can cool down the most frequently used room in your home. You might even decide to put units in windows of multiple rooms for more cooling.
